Korean Maritime Navigational Equipment Manufacturer, Marine Electronics, acquires MED certification Acquiring MED certification of the Electronic Chart Display and Information System(ECDIS), which is essential for ships
Jun 10, 2020, 02:15
Marine Electronics, a Korean maritime navigational equipment manufacturer, has obtained the MED certification for an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
Marine Electronics obtained the certification through the Overseas Certification Support Project hosted by Busan City and Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Materials Research Institute (KOMERI).
The Overseas Certification Support Project is to help companies that have failed to obtain the overseas certification required by the exporting country due to lack of information even when the export conditions are met.
It is very difficult to get the overseas certification. This is because each certification requires different procedures and requirements, and each time a new preparation is required.
However, Marine Electronics has made good use of the Overseas Certification Support Project and obtained the necessary MED certification for ECDIS without much difficulty, and Marine Electronics is planning to develop the latest version that meets the international standards along with the certification.
An official from Marine Electronics said, “At this time, the passage for entering the overseas market has been prepared. We will endeavor to become a company that can lead the overseas advance of the marine industry along with products to be developed in the future.”
Meanwhile, Marine Electronics was established in 1985, and has been leading the development of various maritime navigational equipment, and has been supplying educational simulators to the Navy, Coast Guard, and marine related schools.
Marine Electronics developed ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System), which is a compulsory ship navigation equipment, with their own technology, and obtained the certification suitable for international standards and domestic regulations, and delivered it to various domestic shipping companies.
In addition, Marine Electronics is becoming a research and development company with its own core technologies such as VTS and INS.
The products covered by Marine Electronics are as follows.
1. Dynamic Positioning System (DP)
: A computer-controlled system to automatically maintain a vessel’s position and heading by using its own propellers and thrusters
2. Ship Handling Simulator (SHS)
: Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 (NTPRO 5000) enables simulator training and certification of watch officers, chief officers, captains and pilots on all types of vessels.
