Interview with SEC - 1 CEO Kim Jong-hyun : “SEC plans to grow into a global e-Beam Pioneer company for the 30th anniversary of our foundation”
Jul 12, 2021, 05:34
“SEC will grow into the world's best 'e-Beam pioneer' by investing heavily in the development of new products based on e-beam source technology and expanding our business in the global market.”
Kim Jong-hyun, CEO of SEC, said, “We will step up as a 100-year company in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the foundation.” SEC has invested heavily in electronic beam application technology and SEC is currently expanding its stride into markets such as industrial X-ray inspection equipment, tabletop SEM, and linear accelerator (LINAC).
The common key source technology for these devices is the electronic beam. SEC is not focusing on a specific application system market, but is implementing a counter-invention strategy to target the market where electronic beam technology is the core. SEC has been operating for 30 years, focusing on technology.
After the first localization of the industrial X-ray generator (tube), a high-precision and high-reliability component, in 2006, SEC has excelled in markets such as industrial X-ray inspection equipment, SEM, and linear accelerators, and plans to enter the medical X-ray generator market. Among the companies with electronic beam technology, SEC is almost the only one in the global market that deals with three businesses : X-ray inspection equipment, SEM, and linear accelerators.
CEO Kim Jong-hyun said, “The ultra-high-speed 3D CT automatic inspection equipment is equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm based on deep learning to not only increase the accuracy of inspection of batteries and semiconductors, but also maintain a fast inspection speed. It will become a new growth engine that creates a turning point that jumps to 50 billion won.”
“Also in the field of semiconductors, precision parts, and automobile parts, the existing optical inspection method faces the limit of reliability of inspection of parts, and we decided that the demand for industrial X-ray inspection equipment would increase, so we jumped into it in 2002.”
At that time, Korean companies depended on importing all of their X-ray generators from Germany and Japan. It took 6 years to develop the X-ray generator, which is a key component, from the equipment to the development of the X-ray generator.
“In the beginning, we relied on a foreign X-ray generator. However, we decided to localize the X-ray generator as we judged that the business of importing and manufacturing engines by automobile companies was not competitive.”
“For industrial X-ray inspection equipment, experts in five fields, including physical design, mechanical design, precision processing, control device, and software, must work together, but the company had only mechanical design and control device personnel. By self-studying technologies in other fields, we have now ranked first in the domestic industrial X-ray inspection equipment market share.”
