Korean linear motor manufacturer, Kovery, trying to conquer the Japanese market. CEO Hong-joong Kim, “Japan proposed project collaboration of super-precision linear motor”.
May 13, 2020, 02:25
Four leading engineering professors and six doctoral students from Japan visited Kovery (CEO : Hong-Joong Kim), a specialized linear motor manufacturer located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do in Korea. The purpose for visiting Kovery was to suggest project collaboration with Kovery. They were interested in “Kovery Linear Motor,” developed by Kovery and patented in Korea, Japan, and the United States. Japanese entrepreneurs, researchers, and university professors often come to Kovery. These are for similar reasons, too.
The motor is the heart of the machine. The linear motor converts rotational motion into linear motion and the linear motor is a key component used in manufacturing precision products such as ultra-precision machine tools, camera module equipment, OLED (organic light emitting diode) production equipment, smartphone production and inspection equipment, etc. Japanese and German companies are on the top of the linear motor market. Now Kovery is competing with them.
Kovery linear motors reduce magnetism and friction resistance significantly by placing the magnet vertically to the floor, compared to conventional motors. So the motor moves quickly and precisely. CEO Hong-joong Kim said, “Our linear motors can precisely control the nano level, which is like the level of precision to match the strings in an airplane flying over 10,000 meters. With our patented technology, Kovery can make the motor simply, so maintenance is easy and the price is competitive." He was invited to the “Japan Motor Technology Symposium” in April last year, and he was the only Korean to speak to Japanese businessmen and university professors.
Mr. Kim graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Tokyo City University, and worked for 13 years at the Hitachi Research Institute, returned to Korea and founded in 2010.
Mr. Kim said, “Kovery plans to increase annual sales to 10 billion won in 3 years. Hitachi's old colleagues and professional academics are acting as an ambassador for public relations. ” Kovery supplies the linear motors to Hitachi THK.
