Jan 05, 2023, 05:25
Seers Lab, a Korean XR (Extended Reality) startup specializing in metaverse, is developing an open metaverse platform for the government. It is noteworthy that private companies and the Korean government have joined to build a metaverse platform that can be used throughout the industry.
According to the information technology (IT) industry, a six-company metaverse consortium hosted by Seers Lab, a Korean metaverse specialist, has been selected as the final operator of the metaverse platform development project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association.
The metaverse of this project is the largest platform project promoted by the Korean government. Through Seers Lab's open metaverse platform 'Mirror City', the virtual world and reality are linked in real-time. Users of ‘Mirror City’ can directly build content, data, and business models.
When this metaverse platform is commercialized, it is expected that the government, local governments, and businesses will be able to create new virtual economic values. The total budget for the development of this project is about USD M 1.1
The consortium, led by Seers Lab, a Korean metaverse company, was highly evaluated for its development ability to converge various technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, spatial data, content, and XR platform. In particular, ‘Lollicam’, an AR selfie video app launched in 2015, gained great popularity.
The AR core engine‘AR Gear’, developed with its own technology, has been installed in about 80 million mobile apps worldwide. In addition to Seers Lab, this consortium participated in VR (virtual reality) platform and four blockchain-related companies.
“For successful commercialization, we will utilize about 80 existing customers and expand globally based on our overseas network,” said Chung, CEO of Seers Lab, who is in charge of metaverse platform development.
“Anyone can freely create content and services within Mirror City. We plan to release a development tool that can be developed in the first half of next year,” he said confidently.
