I would like to introduce the two co-CEOs of Shoe Vital, a Korean shoe care products manufacturer, Koh Tae-min and Shim Woo-jin.
Q1. It is a bit interesting that it is a corporation with two co-representatives. How is the relationship between the two of you?
A : We've been friends since middle school, and we're both 27 now.
Q2. For what reason did you develop ‘Shoe Tree’ and start a business?
A : It was developed out of discomfort in everyday life. In the case of CEO Shim Woo-jin, when he was in high school, he wanted Nike Jordan sneakers, so he saved up money for six months and bought them second-hand.
These are used shoes, but they are expensive shoes for high school students. I wore it carefully, but the leather on the shoe started to get damaged. In the end, I only wore it for 3 months.
CEO Goh Tae-min has experience in purchasing expensive shoes that he wanted to buy by saving his salary in addition to his employment.
It's an expensive product, so I wanted to keep it like new for a long time. Existing products prevent wrinkles only during storage but do not prevent wrinkles when wearing shoes. I started a business based on this uncomfortable experience.
Q3. What process did you go through to commercialize the shoe care product ‘Shoe Tree’?
A : After the patent came out, I was busy with commercialization after decided to run the business. Utility model registration is possible with just an idea, but commercialization was only possible when a practical product came out.
I had to come up with what material and how to make it, but since I had no special knowledge or skills in this field, I learned by looking for a design company that would make the drawings.
Q4 What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs?
A : If you go through each one, you can see that it is made up at some point. Don't give up just because it's hard, keep working hard and you'll get good results.
A worried personality is also an advantage in starting a business. Because I worry, I prepare a lot, and because I prepare a lot, good results come out a lot.
